The Secret Adventures of Rolo – 4 books

Debi and Rolo and covers of the 4 books

If you are wondering why Rolo and I have been awfully quiet on the blogging front lately it’s because we have been working hard on our latest book. There are now 4 books in The Secret Adventures of Rolo series and book 1 is entitled Athelstan and the Time Tunnel. Book 2 The Chilvester Passage was published in October 2014 and the third book entitled ‘The Dragon’s Pram’ came out on 3rd October 2015. Book 4 ‘Jewel Dog and the Dragons’ arrived 1 September 2017.

The books are written as if rescue dog Rolo has penned these himself and they have three strands running through them – Rolo’s time travelling adventures where he pops up during historic events and sometimes influences their outcome; his nature notes in a handwritten font and also his blog is written in a contemporary style (hashtags in book 4.)

Rolo is a very special rescue Jack Russell. He finds a secret trapdoor under the sink when he is shut in the kitchen at night and this facilitates his use of a time tunnel in an old oak tree, guarded by a wise dragon called Athelstan. This explains why he is so tired in the morning! There is an educational element to the fun adventure stories; nature and history are explored and creative writing will be encouraged during my primary school visits. To find out more about Rolo or my primary school visits please click to go to my website.

Adventures chapters in book 3 include Rolo’s first hand account of Magna Carta, the Iron Age, Gunpowder Plot, attempted theft of the Crown Jewels as well as the challenges of coping with a dragon egg!

Latest adventures include more mythical creatures and plenty of dragons in book 4, as well as the Bronze Age, King Alfred of Wessex and the Saxons, Christmas truce in the trenches during WW1, Greek Mythology and the founding of the United Arab Emirates. ‘Jewel Dog and the Dragons’ is now available.

The books have been beautifully illustrated by  Chantal Bourgonje  and are available via my website here as well as in local bookshops – The White Horse Book Shop and also St Peter’s Church gift shop (Marlborough), Hungerford Bookshop, Devizes Books and  Digger & Mojo (restored furniture and gifts at Woodborough Garden Centre).

i think for book 2 there could be 2 time tunnels and one day he goes to the tunnel. He does not know the way. He goes in the wrong tunnel and meets 2 girls called keirra and jessica . They take him on an adventure to buckingham palace to meet the queen…

you can certainly try to befriend one…first you need to find a dragon shaped object and see if there is a dragon hiding within. Then you need to be very polite and try to get the dragon to trust you. If it’s shy, then you can just pretend and make a story up about the dragon anyway. Good luck!
