Inspirational Primary School visits to encourage creative writing

Debi and Rolo

I visit primary schools to talk about the inspiration behind my books. Teachers and parents know that children love an ‘author experience’! I like to speak to an assembled Key Stage 2 for approximately 45 minutes and explain about the books I have written, read extracts and also share story ideas with a view to encouraging children to write their own amazing fantasy stories. Time is allowed at the end for answering questions.

Dynamic creative writing workshops for KS2 are my speciality, encouraging and inspiring even the most reluctant writers.

Contact me directly for more details and bookings. contact  I have also presented to children at schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Bahrain and Beijing – yes, dragons to China! Now that was an exciting trip! I have talked about dragons in Jakarta (Global Jaya International School) and also opened the first children’s literature presentation at UBUD writers festival in Bali. Quite surreal to be translated ‘live’ and I had to remember to speak slowly and pause at the end of a statement! More recently, children in San Rafael, California discovered the Secret Adventures of Rolo.

    Dear Debi
The information on your website is fascinating. I notice that you have visited primary schools in Wiltshire. Any plans to return? Our school is Southwick Primary and it is close to Trowbridge in Wiltshire (not far from Fitzmaurice which you visited previously). Would be interested if any return visits planned.
    Many thanks

Hello, I was wondering if you want to do a visit in Australia. I went to Giggles in Abu Dhabi a few years ago and I was there for your visit. It was great and I would like to give my new classmates a chance to read the books as they are great! My school is Rollingstone State School in Rollingstone, Queensland. It would be awesome if you visited!

I’ll keep you posted if a trip is on the cards….just need a school to invite me! There are 2 more in the series since I met you at Giggles, Abu Dhabi, and book 6 will commence soon…

Hi Noor…my daughter sent me a photo of an amazing dragon in Festival City…don’t forget dragons move about between dragon shaped hiding places no matter how modern they are…don’t worry about losing your dragonore – I’m sure you’ve still got the imagination to see dragons!

Thanks for coming to Banstead Juniors this morning Debi. It was great to hear many children say that they were inspired. During the day I have seen children writing stories, telling stories, drawing illustrations and looking for dragons! Please give Rolo a good scratch from his new friends at BCJS.
    Thanks again.

Thank you so much for inviting me in. It was such a pleasure to talk to such an enthusiastic group of children. I hope they feel inspired to write their own fantasy stories! Rolo is pretending to sleep in his basket – I think he can’t wait for me to go to bed so he can go out adventuring!
