Dragon protecting

Debi EvansThe Secret Society of Dragon Protectors series of books was written by Debi Evans and John MacPherson between 2006 and 2010. There were  5 books written. Target age range 7-12 years and dragon fans of all ages. The series was self-published these books and sold in excess of 70,000 copies mainly through worldwide school visits.

The idea behind the series is that dragons are real, still alive and hiding! They are in ‘Great Hibernation’ to preserve their species from extinction. Dragons use their special powers to hide as they were fed up by being hunted by people in the past, either in fear, or wanting to steal their treasure.

If you know anything about dragons already you will know that they are attracted to bright shiny objects and love to hoard precious things. If you are lucky enough to find a dragon you WILL find treasure! What you may NOT know is that when baby dragons are born their mothers show them to roll on the floor of the cave so that precious jewels stick to their tummy. This has a dual purpose; it keeps dragon treasure safe, and it also gives them protection for their weak spot on the underside of their bodies, a bit like armour.

The most precious jewel of all to a dragon is its heartstone, called Dragonore. This is a blue crystal found deep in the caves of Krubera in Georgia, Eastern Europe. It is because of Dragonore that dragons have realised they can become invisible and hide in anything at all which is dragon shaped or dragon themed, whether it is something as large as a statue (i.e. the ones on London Bridge) or something as small as a coin (some British pound coins have a dragon on one side). It can be something two dimensional such as the Welsh flag. Dragons are going to stay hidden until such a time as they feel it safe to walk about freely on earth again…and that time is coming. The Secret Society of Dragon Protectors was formed as a sort of human club to keep an eye on hidden dragons, monitor their awakening and keep them safe.

Hi Ffion, great to hear from you. I really enjoyed my visit to Micklands Primary School today. The website is http://www.thesecretsocietyofdragonprotectors.co.uk and you are more likely to see dragons if you believe in them – it helps if you have Dragonore and remember to use your imagination too!
