after the rain

Following on from glorious sunshine, a very wet Jubilee day but just look how my garden grows! My very first red strawberry has appeared! Since these photos were taken the potatoes have filled the bins and the runner beans have reached the top of the tripod….just waiting for the sweet peas to strengthen and reach up a bit before they flower – can’t wait to breathe in their heady scent!

The Thames Pagaent for the Diamond Jubilee was undimininished by the rain. Our Queen did amazingly well to stand on the Royal barge for 4 hours waving and smiling, standing out in white/diamond amongst all the red, white blue and gilt.

The Georgians sang in St George’s church, Preshute this morning – The Old Hundreth (All People That on Earth Do Dwell) arranged by RV Williams – in four part harmony complete with trumpet, side drum and thundering organ. The congregation burst into applause – thats a first in church!

Marlborough Community Choir sang their little cottons off in the Town Hall (instead of the priory gardens due to inclement weather) – acoustics were terrible, children full of candyfloss competed and not many turned out to hear us but the lovely Mayoress granted us a Waits badge – a historic honour bestowed upon minstrels started in the time of Elizabeth I. We are very chuffed indeed and have been invited to sing at the Marlborough Jazz Festival on 15 July. This afternoon on to Alton Barnes for a Jubilee barn dance…in a barn of course!
