An amazing day spent entirely on foot exploring the centre of Ubud. First stop, the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival Organisers office to pick up my pass and programme (and free t-shirt – yay!!) and to learn that my venue has been changed because more than 60 children want to come and the Pondok Pekak library isn’t big enough so have been moved next door to the Bale Banjar..a very ornate building that usually houses traditional Balinese danceshows. I even have a translator! Very excited about being the opening event of the Children’s programme and its a shame I don’t have any books left to sell!

Lunched at Tutmak, across the soccer field…superb coffee and green mahi mahi (fish) curry and rice and the essential banana fritter with vanilla ice cream. Met a lovely American writer called Shari and passed a very pleasant hour or so chatting.

A wet afternoon and spent out (too much shopping!) …returned to Puri Bunga to have a cuppa and regroup for the Legong (traditional Balinese dancing) at Ubud Palace tonight…at $8 it has to be done!! Favourite photos today are the rocking horse for rent and the animal shelter sign, ‘Eat Spay Love’…cracked me up!
