Half Century School Reunion

August 7, 2011 at 10:59 am 3 comments

Adrian and I sat in the carpark of the chosen pub, half an hour late, and wound each other up into a frenzy about the success of the event. Despite having organised this reunion I was incredibly nervous…it felt like my first day at school when in fact it was my first day at school for 32 years. Regardless of a 2 day closure of the relevant section of the M25, ex de Staffordites met at The Fox pub, Coulsdon Common in Caterham

for a reunion (leavers from 1977-1979). 20 of us turned up and a very enjoyable afternoon of shared laughs and memories stretched from noon until 8pm in the garden. Some had been married to each other, or had been boy/girlfriends…news of ex de-staffordites was exchanged…where are they now?! As we were mostly in the same school year there is no hiding our age – we are all 50! We are likely to do it again in 5 years time…keep an eye on facebook/friends reunited.

Hi Debbie thanks for organising the day, you may not have notices but the beer drinkers drank the Doombar barrel dry.

A very strange experience and still trying to recognise some people, Adrian for instance, I just could not see the 18 year old smoothy that I remembered although towards the end of the day some of his expressions and bodily language started to be familiar. Other people seemed to have the same heads and faces as they used to have but had swapped their bodies for old middle aged ones, none of us seemed to have gotten a very good deal at this.

    Thanks again for the reunion.

Hmm. Thanks Nigel – and there was I thinking that the years have been kind to me!!

See you all in 5 years – and shall try to rediscover some of my smoothiness in the meantime.

Really enjoyed the day yesterday and thanks very much to Deb for organising.
