nostalgia trip

What a lovely surprise this morning to be contacted by an old school friend transiting Dubai on a business trip to India. Our cup of coffee was all too brief, and seeing him rekindled many happy 6th Form memories from the late 70’s, Thatchers children, when we really thought the world owed us a living. We were very close from age 15-18 and lost touch as we moved away, married and had families…until a school reunion 8 years ago. Ours is the kind of friendship where the clock has been stopped and starts again with ease and we spent a very pleasant 45 minutes half finishing conversations, anxious to share ours news (a lot has happened to both of us in 8 years). The clock has stopped again for a short time, of necessity (he had a plane to catch!) As time passes I am drawn to rediscover my childhood friendships and its wonderful when they turn out to be just as rewarding. We don’t really change do we? not inwardly at least…the personality you may remember from the classroom is still rebelling against the constraints of school and is in great danger of breaking out! I am so looking forward to the ‘school reunion proper’ in August – there is no denying our age – we have all just turned 50! It will be interesting to see who turns up and how they have turned out. There will be at least 4 of us there anyway!
