Free Primary School visits

Rolo in school

I offer free primary school visits within a 2 hour radius of Marlborough particularly if I can visit two schools in a day on farther flung trips. I like to speak to an assembled Key Stage 2 for approximately 45 minutes and explain what inspired the books; what it’s like to write with a partner; read an extract, talk about our dragons; show our website for home use and answer lots of questions. I have a wordsearch for Year 3, and some classroom based literacy ideas compiled around our first book by Dave Cryer, a wonderful freelance drama/English teacher and writer. Also story ideas to share.

Whilst these school visits are free of charge, it is hoped children will take the opportunity to buy a signed/dedicated copy of a book or the set at a special price. My aim, via school visits, is to get children reading….and the best feedback I hear is that even the most reluctant of boys actually want to pick up and read our books. I will also try to inspire some creative writing….and give children a piece of Dragonore when they buy a book and this will increase their creative powers immensely! If they are very lucky, it will act like a dragon detector like it does for Angus and Georgina in our books….when you are near a hidden dragon, the Dragonore will glow and get warm in your hand. Go on, use your imagination and try it out!

A complete list of schools visited follows below. I have also ‘dragoned’ schools in Bahrain and Beijing – dragons to China! Now that was an exciting trip! In September I took dragons to Jakarta (Global Jaya International School) and also did the first childrens literature presentation at UBUD writers festival in Bali. Quite surreal to be translated live and remember to speak slowly and pause at the end of a statement!

    Dear Debi
The information on your website is fascinating. I notice that you have visited primary schools in Wiltshire. Any plans to return? Our school is Southwick Primary and it is close to Trowbridge in Wiltshire (not far from Fitzmaurice which you visited previously). Would be interested if any return visits planned.
    Many thanks
    Dawn Bones

Hello, I was wondering if you want to do a visit in Australia. I went to Giggles in Abu Dhabi a few years ago and I was there for your visit. It was great and I would like to give my new classmates a chance to read the books as they are great! My school is Rollingstone State School in Rollingstone, Queensland. It would be awesome if you visited!

Hi Emma, I would love to bring The Secret Society of Dragon Protectors series of books to Queensland as I know we have a few fans out there. I’ll keep you posted if a trip is on the cards….just need a school to invite me! There are 2 more in the series since I met you at Giggles, Abu Dhabi, and book 6 will commence soon…

Hi Noor…my daughter sent me a photo of an amazing dragon in Festival City…don’t forget dragons move about between dragon shaped hiding places no matter how modern they are…don’t worry about losing your dragonore – I’m sure you’ve still got the imagination to see dragons!

    • 17. Noor Mustafa  |  March 12, 2013 at 9:12 pm

thanks debi but is it natural that the dragonore moves by it self when indicating a dragon?
